Following a successful commemoration of the 2018 World Hepatitis Day which was marked in Uyo, Nigeria on the 28th of July 2018 with a number of activities including Hepatitis awareness campaign, free screening, vaccination and counseling sessions, Trinity Healthcare Foundation, in line with its commitment to sustain the anti-Hepatitis campaign in Nigeria, is set to flag off the 2018 Hepatitis B Vaccination Programme Second Dose in Uyo, Nigeria.
The second dose of the Hepatitis B vaccination is to be administered as a reinforcement to the initial dose given to participants at the World Hepatitis Day 2018 who tested negative to the virus.
This exercise is scheduled to hold on the 28th of August, 2018 at the Community Center, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. And is expected to witness as much turnout as was witnessed during the 2018 World Hepatitis Day event.
In a statement by the Executive Director of Trinity Healthcare Foundation, organisers/sponsors of the 2018 Hepatitis B Vaccination Programme, Dr. Nseabasi Ekanem, the event is a deliberate attempt to rid the state and indeed Nigeria of the dreaded Hepatitis B virus and part of efforts to Find the Missing Millions dying annually due to Hepatitis.
According to Dr. Ekanem, the event which will be carried out in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students, University of Uyo Chapter will also include Awareness Seminar and Roadshow to sensitize members of the public about Hepatitis B especially the preventive measures as well as the importance of getting tested.
Other activities also lined up for the 2018 Hepatitis B Vaccination Programme include free Hepatitis B screening and counseling which will target the student community already identified as being very vulnerable to the virus due to its mode of spread.
Trinity Healthcare Foundation therefore invites all residents of Uyo Metropolis especially those who received the first dose of the Hepatitis B vaccines during the 2018 World Hepatitis Day to be part of the 2018 Hepatitis B Vaccination Programme Second Dose as the Foundation believes that with concerted efforts, we can achieve a world free from Hepatitis by the target date of 2030.
